Bristol graffiti - I think it's some of the best in the world. These are my photos of it.

Buffing
Lately the response to graff in Bristol by the council has been to paint over it - but in random colours and random shapes, that has nothing to do with the colours around it. I'm intrigued as to why this is ok, and graff is an "eyesore". I'm loving the fact it looks like random bits of modern art though - imagine the possibilities for manipulating it - if I painted a little small tag in the middle, would someone add a little square of contrasting colour? The Council would end up painting the patterns I wanted for me. And imagine a couple of simple red lines added to this - yup, definite possibilities.... Can't wait to see how they define the differences between this and graff - except that graff looks better, o'course...

Love - for Valentine's Day!
I do love heart-shaped graff and today's the perfect day for it. Here's hoping all the graffiti artists of Bristol rush out and paint heart-shaped graff, full of love, flowers, rose-tinted spectacles and general Valentine's Day mushiness! Go on, you know you want to! What's more romantic than saying it in paint?

Cept show - 20th Feb to 13th March, Long Arm gallery
Galaxy Rays, Long Arm Gallery, Bridewell Street, Bristol, BS1 3PY
Sat 21st Feb to Friday 13th March - Wednesdays to Sundays, 12 - 7pm
Opening Night: Friday 20th February, 8-10.30pm
And in case you're wondering who the Long Arm Gallery are, it's the new permanant home for Steal From Work, the people behind the 12 Days of Xmas shows, last May's "Not a Penny..." show, and the shows at Trash Express. The Gallery's in the Bridewell complex, appropriately enough in the old CID offices of the former Police station, and they're planning monthly shows down there. There's more info about the show and the Gallery on their website....

Weapon of Choice - Jody and Jef Row - 10th Feb, Mr Wolf's
I have to admite, although I always want to, I've never been to a Weapon of Choice, seeing as it's on a schoolnight. But this one, this one's special. Jody is just incredible - really amazing graff from way back. I saw a whole load of photos of his stuff for Children of the Can - and his pages are some of the best in the book. And I always love Jef Row's stuff - it was his monkey stencil that made me really start looking at graffiti - it's because of him I started to love it, and take photos and get hugely obsessed... So it should be a good one, and I can't wait. Here's to workday hangovers!
